Wanted: 1000 organic supporters

The ORGANIC TARGETS BILL Campaign, which calls for 30 per cent of land to be organically farmed by 2010, wants at least 1000 supporters of organic food and
farming to take part in a rally and lobby of Parliament on Wednesday 23 January 2002.


IF YOU CAN'T BE THERE - Please WRITE and post a LETTER of SUPPORT to JOAN RUDDOCK this weekend, including the name of your Constituency and MP,

and

ALSO send a COPY of YOUR LETTER to YOUR MP


Or hand both to someone you know will be going.


This is URGENT !


Channel 4 News this evening had a report on how the
small farmers and suppliers are being eliminated,
with the low prices the supermarkets are paying them
forcing them out of business.

Don't leave it to the Supermarkets and the Government's
advisers to look to our interests. Now is our chance to
show the Government what matters to us all.

The Programme:

2.00pm Rally speeches at Central Methodist Hall together with an audience question and answer session.

The rally will be chaired by Prof Tim Lang, speakers include Charles Secrett from Friends of the Earth, Patrick Holden from the Soil Association, Barry Leathwood from the TGWU, Joan Ruddock MP, Dr Vyvyan Howard, Simon Jones an organic farmer currently in conversion, and Wendy Wrigley from the Co-op.

3.15pm Lobby Briefing will be given by Patricia Gallimore who plays Pat Archer in Radio 4's the Archers.

3.20pm Everyone will walk over to the House of Commons to lobby their MP, stewards will be en route to guide everyone. We will form a queue going into the St Stephen's entrance of the Houses of Parliament.

3.30pm Groups of 100 people at a time will be allowed into the House of Commons to meet with their MP. Once inside you will be asked to fill out a green card with your details and your MPs name and your reason for requesting a personal interview, your MP will then be located and if available will come and meet you.

After speaking to your MP please fill in and hand back your feedback sheet (which you will be given on the day) to a steward.
